Description
This Iconic Round Barn is a Landmark in the Belle Plains District northwest of Portage La Prairie, Manitoba, Canada. Today this 105 year old building site is on private land owned by the Bruce Family. This iconic round barn was initially built in 1907 by Mr. R.Hill, who came to the Belle Plains District from Iowa, USA. The Round barn was a 12 sided structure reaching 65 feet in height, and 60 feet in diameter, constructed by fir framing and cedar siding. The original design included 20 horse stalls along the perimeter, a central feeding and hay lift system on a concrete floor. This barn is quite unique, as the Yellowhead Trail crosses through the land, and it is now the last one standing in Manitoba. The cupola that capped the roof can be reached by the spiral stairs inside, that reaches the top. From here you could see for miles from this vantage point. The cupola was victim to a tornado in 1922, which sliced the cupola off...It has since been reattached. The present owners use the barn to feed their Aberdeen Angus cattle....Info gleaned from the Central Plains Herald Leader.

Outstanding country artwork Larry! Round barns are fascinating structures! I've had the great privilege to be inside several such historic farm buildings, really takes one back in time… L&F

This is truly a first for me, Larry! I never have seen a 10 sided or decagon barn before, but this capture, with the blank angus, I assume, is just phenomenal and what a treat to see! Love it! fave and vote ( Notice there are no dogs on properties with octagonal, or decagonal barns, as they would drive themselves crazy to find a corner to relieve themselves in! LOL
Larry Trupp replied:
Good Afternoon Randy, so glad you liked it...Loved your comments BTW, and the courtesy of a F/V ...Thanks ever so much
