Captured just before daybreak from the Riverbank Walkway on the east side of the Red River, in downtown Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada....This Winnipeg Landmark is a Salisbury House Restaurant built right on the Esplanade Riel, a walking bridge connecting the downtown area with the eastern suburb of St. Boniface. This restaurant is locally known as the SALS
It frequently attracts visitors, young and old and is widely considered a Winnipeg landmark. The restaurant chain was initially founded in Downtown Winnipeg in 1931 by Ralph Erwin and was named for the Salisbury steak. Erwin, who disliked the name hamburger, named his burger a NIP (which he considered was a nip of Salisbury steak). There are now 20 Salisbury Houses in Winnipeg and the surrounding area.
